LAWRENCE MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE
KANSAS CITY, KAN. – A Lawrence man whose computer contained more than 1,000 images of child pornography was sentenced Tuesday to 121 months in federal prison.
Michael Allen Swim, 49, Lawrence, pleaded guilty in August to one count of receiving child pornography via the Internet. He was sentenced Tuesday during a hearing before U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia.
In his plea, Swim admitted that there were 1,232 images of child pornography on his computer hard drive Aug. 6, 2003, when detectives from the Lawrence Police Department came to his home at 1301 W. 24th, Apartment F-21. Investigators determined that Swim obtained the photos and 19 movies during visits to chat rooms in which participants traded images via email.
U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren commended the Lawrence Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Martin for their work on the case.
