WICHITA MAN CHARGED WITH BANK ROBBERY

WICHITA, KAN. – Robert A. James, 42, Wichita, was charged Thursday with one count of bank robbery.

James is accused of the Jan. 26, 2008, robbery at Intrust Bank, 1544 S. Webb in Wichita.

According to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in U.S. District Court:
– Little entered the bank at about 9 a.m. He handed the teller a torn $5 bill and asked to exchange it.
– While the teller was examining the bill, James leaned forward and said: “Give me all your hundreds and fifties.” He added: “I’m not playing with you. I have a gun. I will shoot you. This is no joke.”
– James was arrested Jan. 29, 2008, at his apartment at Buttonwood Tree Apartments. He was identified from surveillance photos taken at the bank.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Wichita Police Department worked on the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch is prosecuting.
