LAKE LINDEN COUNTERFEITING DUO SENTENCED
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2009 - MARQUETTE, Mich. –Robert Scott Girtz, 37, of Lake Linden, Michigan, and Lori Anne Mills, 42, of Calumet, Michigan, were sentenced for counterfeiting U.S. currency, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today. U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell sentenced Girtz to 30 months’ imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. Mills was sentenced to five years of probation, with six months of home confinement. Both Girtz and Mills were ordered to pay restitution to the victims of the crime.
Mills pleaded guilty on September 22, 2008, and Girtz pleaded guilty on October 3, 2008, to counterfeiting U.S. currency. The charges stemmed from an investigation into the making of approximately $700 in counterfeit currency, approximately $140 of which was passed in the Lake Linden area in September 2007. Both Girtz and Mills admitted to counterfeiting U.S. currency from their residence in Lake Linden.
U.S. Attorney Davis commended the U.S. Secret Service and the Michigan State Police, Calumet Post, for their work in this case. This case was prosecuted on behalf of the government by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D. Lochner.
