LANSING CRACK COCAINE DEALER SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS
ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Leon Laron Greenwood, 26, of Lansing, Michigan, was sentenced Friday, September 12, 2008, to 11 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, U.S. Attorney Charles R. Gross announced today. U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell also ordered Greenwood to serve five years of supervised release and to pay $200 in special assessments.

Greenwood pled guilty on June 5, 2008 to drug and weapon charges stemming from a September 6, 2007 incident where officers of the Lansing Police Department found Greenwood, a felon with multiple convictions, in the possession of a loaded .25 caliber handgun and a quantity of crack cocaine intended for distribution.

U.S. Attorney Gross commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Lansing Police Department for their work in the case. Their joint investigation was undertaken as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. This case was prosecuted on behalf of the United States of America by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elisa Castrolugo.
