EMPLOYEE OF FOUR WINDS RESORT
PLEADS GUILTY TO THEFT FROM A TRIBAL CASINO
TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 2009 -
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Lorraine Brooks, 49, of Merrillville, Indiana, pled guilty yesterday to theft by an employee from a tribal gaming organization, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today. Brooks, while employed by the Pokagon Band of Pottawatomi Indians, as a dealer at the craps tables in the Four Winds Resort in New Buffalo, Michigan, took $850 worth of chips valued at $25 each from her bank roll.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 13, 2009, before U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker. Brooks faces up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
U.S. Attorney Davis commended the Pokagon Band Tribal Police and Special Agents of FBI, St. Joseph office, for their work on the case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff J. Davis.
