STURGIS MAN SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS
FOR DISTRIBUTING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2008 -
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – Carl Scott Schalow, Sr., 40, of Sturgis, Michigan, has been
sentenced to 5 years in prison for distributing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Charles R. Gross
announced today. U.S. District Judge Robert J. Jonker presided over the sentencing and also
directed that Schalow serve ten years of supervised release after his prison sentence is complete.
In October 2006, FBI agents working in an undercover capacity received pornographic images from Schalow’s computer using LimeWire, a file-sharing program. FBI agents executed a search warrant on Schalow’s residence, where they seized his computer and found his collection of child pornography. Schalow subsequently admitted to using LimeWire as a means to collect and share child pornography.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, county prosecutor’s offices, Internet Crimes Against Children task force (ICAC), federal, state, and local law enforcement are working closely together to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children.
