Small and Disadvantaged Business
Utilization
The small and disadvantaged business program relates to small, socially,
and economically disadvantaged (including 8(a) which is named for the
authorizing section of the Small Business Act), and small women-owned
businesses, and the minority bank deposit initiative. The program's thrust is
to increase participation opportunities for small businesses in the
Department's contract and grant activities; conduct outreach to increase
awareness and availability of qualified providers; develop and issue
information on the Department's procurement needs and procedures; train
Department staff on program requirements and capabilities; and monitor,
evaluate, and report results of the Department's efforts.
The Small Business Procurement
Power Page is designed to assist small businesses interested in procurement
opportunities with the Department of Labor.
Vendor Outreach
Sessions are designed to provide one-on-one contact with DOL agencies and
small businesses.
Minority Colleges and Universities
The minority colleges and universities program includes Historically
Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI),
and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU). OSBP promotes efforts to increase
the involvement of such institutions in the Department's programs, including
procurement; develops departmental policy and guidelines; establishes program
plans; and monitors and reports on results achieved.
The
Hispanic
Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) works toward improving the
quality of post-secondary educational opportunities for Hispanic students while
meeting the needs of business and government industries through the development
and sharing of resources, information, and expertise.
The
National
Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) is the
national umbrella and public policy advocacy organization for 116 of the
nation's historically and predominantly Black colleges and universities
The
American
Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) is a cooperatively sponsored
effort on the part of 31 member institutions in the United States and Canada
that promotes accessibility of educational programs for Native Americans and
Alaska Natives.
