ORAL RESEARCH DATA FROM THE WOMEN’S INTERAGENCY HIV STUDY (WIHS) AVAILABLE TO RESEARCHERS RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2004 NOTICE: NOT-DE-04-007 National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) (http://www.nidcr.nih.gov) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) (http://www.niaid.nih.gov/) The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) encourage epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and other investigators to submit grant applications using available oral research data and specimens from the Women’s Interagency HIV Study (WIHS). The WIHS, primarily funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is the largest, long-term observational study of the natural history of HIV in women in the U.S. Approximately 735, primarily minority, women (584 HIV+ and 151 HIV-) received semi- annual dental examinations from 1995-2004 at clinical sites in Bronx, NY; Chicago, IL; San Francisco, CA; and Los Angeles, CA. More specific information on the WIHS is available at the following website: https://statepiaps.jhsph.edu/wihs/. One potential funding source for oral studies using the WIHS cohort is PAR-04-091, NIDCR SMALL RESEARCH GRANTS FOR DATA ANALYSIS AND STATISTICAL METHODOLOGY (R03), (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-04-091.html). Other funding opportunities can be found at the NIDCR website (http://www.nidcr.nih.gov/Funding/FundingAnnouncements/). Data from this study may be obtained by purchasing the WIHS Public Data Tape (https://statepiaps.jhsph.edu/wihs/). In addition, those interested in collaborating with investigators in the WIHS or those interested in using specimens from the Central Repository should contact the WIHS Principal Investigators directly. Principal Investigators of the WIHS are listed in the WIHS website (https://statepiaps.jhsph.edu/wihs/). After contacting a WIHS Principal Investigator, collaborators need to complete and submit a concept sheet that is reviewed by the WIHS Executive Committee. A description of the process and forms are available on the WIHS website.
