Agua Fria National Monument and Bradshaw - Harquahala Management Plan

Proposed RMP / Final EIS  (August 2008)

Errata Sheet

The BLM Hassayampa Field Office announces publication of the Agua Fria National Monument and Bradshaw-Harquahala Proposed Resource Management Plans (PRMPs) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS).

The Department of the Interior (DOI) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) published its Notice of Availability of the Proposed Resource Management Plans and Final Environmental Impact Statement (PRMPs/FEIS) on August 8, 2008. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published its Notice of Availability of the Agua Fria NM-Bradshaw-Harquahala PRMPs/FEIS on August 8, 2008.  The BLM will accept valid protests on the PRMPs/FEIS through September 7, 2008.  The “Dear Reader” letter at the front of the document provides instructions for filing a formal protest.

The document is now available on the web (link above). A limited number of printed copies and CDs are also available at the BLM Phoenix District Office, 21605 N. 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85027.  You may visit the Phoenix District public room or request a personal copy by contacting RMP Team Lead Connie Stone at 623-580-5500, or by e-mail at AZ_AFNM_Bradshaw@blm.gov.   Please specify preferred media type.

The Hassayampa Field Office encompasses 967,000 acres in central Arizona, located north and west of Phoenix in portions of Maricopa and Yavapai Counties.  The Agua Fria National Monument includes 70,900 acres of public land in Yavapai County east of Interstate Highway 17. The monument was designated in 2000 to protect its important archaeological, natural and scientific values. The planning document includes separate PRMPs for the Bradshaw-Harquahala planning area and the Agua Fria National Monument, with both areas addressed in the FEIS.

The PRMPs/FEIS present a total of five alternatives which take into consideration comments received from other governmental agencies, public organizations, state and tribal entities, and interested individuals. Public collaboration through the scoping process led to the development of management objectives and actions covering protection of monument values, recreation, wildlife, minerals, cultural resources, grazing, land tenure, designation of areas of critical environmental concern (ACEC), wilderness character, access to public lands, and other topics. The PRMPs/FEIS present the BLM’s proposed alternative for each planning area. These proposed Resource Management Plans set forth management objectives and actions that will guide plan implementation to facilitate multiple use and sustained yield management in the Bradshaw-Harquahala planning area, while protecting the values for which the Agua Fria National Monument was established.
