Release DEA AND SAN FRANCISCO POLICE ARREST MAJOR METHAMPHETAMINE DISTRIBUTOR
On October 10, 2001, Special Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Inspectors from San Francisco Police Department Narcotics Unit arrested Ronald E. Curtis, a 34 year-old resident of San Francisco, for possession with intent to distribute over six pounds of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.” The SFPD narcotics inspectors served a state search warrant at the residence of Curtis, located at 1215 Bay, Apartment 10, San Francisco, and confiscated, in addition to the drugs, one 9mm pistol, approximately $16,000 in currency, a digital scale, and drug ledgers. The “ice,” which is the purest and most expensive form of methamphetamine, has an approximate street value of more than $500,000. Ronald E. Curtis was arraigned in U.S. District Court on Thursday, October 11, before Magistrate James Larson, and is currently in the custody of the United States Marshals Service. Curtis was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in violation of Title 21 United States Code, section 841(a)(1). If convicted, the defendant could receive a maximum punishment of life imprisonment and a fine of up to $4 million. Curtis will have a detention hearing next week to determine if he is eligible for a bond. Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Steskal is assigned to prosecute the charges. |
