Meadowood Recreation Area Public Scoping Meeting

On Tuesday March 24, 2009, the United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States Lower Potomac Field Station will hold a public scoping meeting on proposed plans to construct one trailhead parking area and two new trails at the Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area. The meeting will be held at 10406 Gunston Road, Lorton, VA 22079 from 7 pm - 8 pm, in the building 2 meeting room.

The proposed project plan will cover a 7-car trailhead parking area at 10705 Belmont Boulevard, a replacement trail 3200 feet long for the Chicken Coop trail on the East parcel of Meadowood, and a new 1800 foot long trail to provide a connection with Pohick Bay Regional Park and the Meadowood trail system at the Camp Wilson entrance. The trailhead parking area was identified in the 2004 Integrated Management Plan for the property, however the new trails are newly proposed.

Construction would take place over the next several years, following completion of a project plan and environmental assessment for the project. This scoping meeting is a step in that process.

All citizens who would like to learn more about these proposals and may have concerns, comments or suggestions are invited to attend.
