Vernal Field Office Fire Program
Federal and State agencies are recruiting now for wildland firefighting positions that begin in May 2008. The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and the Utah Division Forestry, Fire and State Lands are looking for wildland firefighters for next year’s fire season. Applications are available online.
The work itself requires arduous physical exertion under rigorous conditions. The ability to work in rough, uneven terrain is essential and climbing hills covered with trees, brush, rocks, and debris is to be expected. Minimum physical skills include heavy labor, bending, lifting, and carrying backpacks and gear weighing 45 pounds or more.
