Feb 20, 2008 SUU Career Fair
This week the Cedar City BLM enjoyed an incredible opportunity to extend its mission through educational outreach efforts during the semi-annual Career Fair hosted by Southern Utah University on February 20, 2008. Held at the Sharwan Smith Center in the heart of SUU's campus, the number of student and graduate attendees kept all four BLM staff busy throughout the entire event. The team, consisting of Recreation Specialist Sherry Roche, Fire Engine Module Leader Nick Howell (pictured), Public Affairs Officer Rachel Tueller of the Cedar City BLM office, along with Clay Stewart a Recreation Planner from the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, shared BLM's mission with more than 80 students. The rapport between BLM representatives and students was positive and the reception to the BLM's message from students, especially those studying in the University's Outdoor Recreation Program, was incredibly amiable. Students and land managers alike shared insights on land management approaches in a mutually beneficial and educational atmosphere. Attendees were also provided leads on two seasonal job opportunities within the Cedar City Field Office as well as helpful, step by step assistance & tutorials on navigating the federal government's application process.
