WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rejecting the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) slaughter of otherwise healthy horses as a viable management tool, the House Natural Resources Committee today approved legislation introduced by Chairman Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) that will ensure the continued protection of thousands of America's free-roaming wild horses and burros that make their homes on America's public lands.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Three days before the running of the annual Kentucky Derby, the House Natural Resources Committee is set to consider legislation to address an entirely different horse derby - the roundup and retention of thousands of America's free-roaming wild horses and burros that make their homes on America's public lands. Instead of fulfilling their duty to protect these herds, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is placing all of its bets on the slaughter of otherwise healthy animals as a management tool.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In an effort to better understand how the National Park Service (NPS) and the new Administration are preparing for the impacts of climate change on federal lands, the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands, led by Chairman Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), will hold an oversight hearing at Joshua Tree National Park in California on "The Impact of Climate Change on America's National Parks."
