Patent Passed to City of St. George for new Park
On September 30, 2008 local dignitaries from the City of St. George, members of the local media, and the BLM St. George Field Office gathered at the newly completed Cottonwood Cove Park to celebrate the BLM issuing a Recreation and Public Purposes Patent (R&PP) to the City of St. George. The completion of the 2.7 acre park was the last step in the R&PP process that began in 1996, when the BLM and the City of St. George signed a lease agreement. By successfully completing the park, the City fulfilled its obligations under the R&PP process and applied for patent to the land.
Located on Dixie Drive, the neighborhood park is helping the City meets its goal of providing recreational opportunities within ¼ mile of all residents. The park provides the local community with several amenities including a playground, a picnic shelter, restrooms, and walking paths. With its prime location along the Santa Clara River, the park also enabled the City to achieve its goal of expanding its non-motorized trail system. A large portion of the Santa Clara River Trail is located on the patented lands allowing the trail system to connect to Tonaquint Park to the south.
