Monica Rosas, Commercial Assistant, Tijuana Mexico and George Tastard meet with local businesses on international exporter insight into Border Trade and Doing Business in Mexico: 2008 Highlight

On July 7 & 8, 2008 Monica Rosas, Commercial Assistant of CS Tijuana and George Tastard, Director of the Sacramento U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC) met with local Northern California businesses to discuss border trade as well as doing business in Mexico. In a group effort, the Sacramento coordinated the two days of meetings in Sacramento as well as in Chico with the support of the Sacramento and Chico for International Trade Development (CITD). The companies who participated on Monday, July 7, 2008 in Sacramento were: Ealing Catalog, Fire Management Consultant, USA Career Start, XanGo, Conmar Corporation, Pacific Ag Commodities, and BusinessCoach.com.  Those who attended Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in Chico were: Ameri-Brand Products Inc., Aztec Heart Inc., Butte College-Outreach, Lares Research, Navex Trading Company Inc., North Coast SBDC, Nulife Koatings, Convey the Message (CTM), Rescue 42, Inc.

On Monday July 7th, during the meetings each company gave Ms. Rosas and Mr. Tastard an overview of their company and their company's future goals. Tastard and Rosas presented the firms with Mexican market counseling, suggestions of appropriate U.S Commercial programs as well as industry specific trade advice.

On Monday evening, the Northern hosted a Mixer with a presentation by Mr. Victor Pelaez, Mexican Consul of Political Affairs as well as Ms. Rosas, Commercial Assistant of CS Tijuana.  Over 40 individuals from the Sacramento international business community had the opportunity to hear from the government representatives about current successes and future possibilities for Sacramento businesses in the Mexican market. Sacramento companies either new to the Mexican market or veterans had the chance to create valuable business connections.

On July 8, 2008 Rosas and Tastard traveled to Chico and visited the Center for International Trade Development of Butte College. From 10:00am-2:00pm, Ms. Rosas, Mr. Jim Wilson, the director of the Center for International Trade Development of Butte College, and George Tastard presented a panel discussion to a group of twenty individuals from the upstate California international business community.  During the working lunch, Rosas, Tastard and Wilson lead a question and answer session. Finally, the companies Rescue 42, Inc. and Navex Trading Company Inc. participated in one-on-one counseling sessions with Rosas, Tastard and Wilson.  Overall, the outreach was a success and CS Tijuana, the Sacramento and Butte College CITD as well as the Sacramento USEAC are now working together to promote trade between Northern California and Mexico.

 

Brief Biographical Background of Monica Rosas

Monica Rosas was born in Anaheim, California.  She received the Bachelors in International Relations from the Baja California State University in 2004.

She began working as a Trade Aide for the for the U.S. Commercial Service office in Tijuana in August 2003 and was officially hired as a Commercial Assistant in April 2005.  Currently, she assists the office Director and works extensively with the manufacturing industry and all other industries in the border region. Along with her colleagues Ms. Rosas has organized the Tijuana Border Development Program, which has been very successful in introducing U.S. Companies to Mexican Buyers.
