IEA Contributes to Renewables Global Status Report

The IEA acted as one of the “lead topical researchers” for the newly released REN21 Renewables Global Status Report 2009 Update. The IEA provided updates on the latest renewables policy and market developments in OECD countries for the report, drawing on policy and statistical information in the IEA Renewables Policies and Measures database: http://renewables.iea.org.

First Official IEA Visit to Poland

On his first official visit to Poland since the country joined the IEA in September 2008, IEA Executive Director, Mr. Nobuo Tanaka, met with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Mr. Waldemar Pawlak.
IEA Submission to US Senate on Creation of Oil Product Reserve

The US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on 12 May about creating a product reserve in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The IEA – which was asked to participate – supports the creation of a product reserve, which could help to cope with the vulnerability to hurricanes in the US refining system.

IEA visits US Department of Energy

In Washington for meetings, the IEA met with DOE Secretary Steven Chu and Mr. David Sandalow, Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Affairs. Discussions focused on climate change mitigation and energy security.
Mapping Global R&D Efforts

IEA and the Expert Group on R&D convened a workshop to map global R&D efforts. Experts from governments and international organisations discussed current trends and national strategies to accelerate R&D in countries around the world.
