I congratulate the House-Senate education reform conference committee on the agreements they reached today on programs to improve teacher quality and assistance for students with limited English proficiency, as well as their decision to address funding issues related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act next year as we move ahead with the reauthorization of that important legislation.

I am very pleased with the progress the committee is making on our plans to reform America's schools so no child is left behind, and I look forward to their final meeting and to the prospect of a final bill this year. The President set out to offer all of America's children a high-quality education and to close the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their peers. The committee's actions bring us closer to putting reforms into America's classrooms next fall.
