U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings today issued the following statement upon the naming of Molly Broad as president of the American Council on Education (ACE):

"I congratulate Molly in taking on this important role in leading ACE, whose institutions serve millions of students every day across America. Molly is an accomplished academic administrator with vast experience and knowledge of America's higher education system. As we work to make college more affordable and accessible to all students, stay globally competitive in today's knowledge-based economy and continue to have the best higher education system in the world, I look forward to working with Molly on these critical issues for our country.

"I would also like to thank out-going ACE president David Ward for his service on my Commission on the Future of Higher Education and look forward to continuing to work with ACE and the many institutions it represents."
