Frankfort, KY -- The state-federal disaster recovery centers have closed but victims of the February flooding in Kentucky can still get answers to their disaster-related questions.
"People who need information can still check on the status of their applications or get answers to other disaster-related questions by calling the toll-free Helpline," according to Deputy State Coordinating Officer Cash Centers of the state Division of Emergency Management.
The Helpline number is 1-800-525-0321. The hearing- or speech-impaired can call TTY 1-800-660-8005. Hours are 8 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.
ASSISTANCE STILL AVAILABLE
Individuals and businesses in Bath, Boyd, Carter, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas, Robertson and Rowan counties that sustained damage as a result of the flooding Feb. 18 to March 2 who haven't already applied for disaster aid should do so as soon as possible. The application deadline is April 28, 2000.
The registration number is 1-800-462-9029. The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Interviewers take applications between 8 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Saturday.
Disaster assistance programs include: housing assistance, which provides rental assistance for those whose homes are uninhabitable or pay for essential repairs to make homes livable; and grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs. It also includes low-interest loans for flood-damaged residential, business, and agricultural property; disaster unemployment assistance; tax assistance; and other special services.
