The Alger Women of Honor roll recognizes Alger County women who have lead enriched lives, whether through work, hobby, volunteerism, or everyday living. The annual program is usually held on the third Thursday of August. In 2007, the program will be on Thursday, August 30.
The Women of Honor Observance celebrates the passage of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gave women the right to vote.

Nineteenth Amendment
August 26, 1920
Section 1. The right of the citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied
or abridged by any State on account of sex.
Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Did You Know?
On October 6, 1972, ceremonies in Munising marked the establishment of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, America's first national lakeshore. To symbolically link the park's two gateway communities of Munising and Grand Marais, water and sand was poured from two glass containers into a third.
