HELEN LADD NAMED TO JACOB K. JAVITS FELLOWS PROGRAM FELLOWSHIP BOARD

Helen Ladd, professor of public policy studies and economics and graduate studies director at Duke University, has been named to the Jacob K. Javits Fellows Program Fellowship Board by U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley.

"I am so pleased that Dr. Ladd has agreed to join the Javits fellowship board," said Riley. "Her devotion to education finance and education policy will allow her to be a great asset to the Javits board's work in providing scholarship assistance to exemplary students."

The Javits program, part of the Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education, provides competitive grants scholarships to outstanding graduate students who intend to pursue doctoral studies in the arts, humanities and social studies.

Ladd, who has been at Duke since 1986, also has held faculty positions at Dartmouth College, Wellesley College, and Harvard University. She is the former president of the National Tax Association and has consulted on tax policy and intergovernmental reform for all three levels of government.

"I look forward to working with such an able group of board members to set policy for this outstanding education program," Ladd said.

Ladd will serve on the board for a four-year term.
