  Question
I'm in the Selected Reserve and I've been called to active duty. How does this affect my period of eligibility for the MGIB-Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606)?
  Answer

If you are activated under Title 10 (Federal authority), VA will generally extend your period of eligibility by the period of your active duty plus 4 months (you new period of eligibility may extend past your reserve obligation). You will receive a separate extension for each call-up. This extension is not available if you were called up under Title 32.

For example: You are in a drilling reserve unit, eligible for Chapter 1606 and are called to active duty operations for 12 months.  Upon your return from active duty, you leave the active reserves.  Normally, your entitlement for Chapter 1606 terminates when you leave the reserves, but due to your mobilization your entitlement would be extended for 16 months past your discharge date (12 months Active duty PLUS an additional 4 months).

NOTE: You may receive less than this amount of time, or no extension depending on whether or not your original delimiting date has passed. Contact VA (contact information below) to receive an official determination.
