The State of Wisconsin is committed to energy independence as a way to increase energy security and climate stewardship. Currently, the State is purchasing more than 92 million kWh of electricity, or 10 percent of the total electricity requirement for six state agencies for the next ten years. Additionally, Wisconsin state agencies and Universities have been tasked with reducing their energy consumption by 10 percent by 2008. Moreover, all Wisconsin electric utilities must source 10 percent for their electricity sales from renewable sources by 2015. Governor Doyle is a leading supporter of energy independence and under Executive Order 192 created the Office of Energy Independence. His vision serves as the driver for the State's clean energy plans. "Wisconsin's commitment to energy independence is an important step toward energy security and climate stewardship. I am pleased that Wisconsin state agencies are cutting their energy use while purchasing clean, renewable energy to power their buildings", said Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle.
