HOTEL AND RESTAURANT EQUIPMENT

New Zealand

New Zealand’s reliance on tourism drives investment in hotels and related hospitality industries, including restaurants and cafes.  This takes the form of both new development and renovations to existing properties.  Based on the number of building consents issued, provision of quality hospitality products and services within the health and institutional sector has never been as high.  In New Zealand, more than NZD 20 billion is spent each year on construction.  Of that total, NZD 7billion is spent on commercial construction - hotel and motel construction are the fastest growing types of construction (Source: Registered Master Builders Federation).   Much of the new hotel construction activity will continue to take place in and around Queenstown, one of New Zealand’s most popular tourist destinations.   In December 2006, U.S.-based Westin Resorts and Hotels announced its intentions to invest in a NZD 800 million project in Queenstown after first entering the Auckland hotel market in August 2006.  Five-star luxury resort Millbrook in Queenstown has also announced details of a NZD 500 million, 200-plus-room development that will include a new nine-hole golf course and a new driving range.  Other new construction nationwide is also focused on facilities related to entertainment, such as sport stadiums, ice-rinks and theaters.
