As part of the U.S.-ASEAN Enhanced Partnership, the ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality Medical Device Product Working Group (MDPWG) and United States Department of Commerce are pleased to announce a Medical Device Capacity Building Workshop on July 30-31, 2007 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The workshop occurs immediately before the 6th MDPWG meeting in Hanoi (August 1-2), and will address the following three overarching themes, all designed to reinforce the Global Harmonization Task Force (GHTF) agenda:
- Building a Regulatory Infrastructure to Promote the Access and Use of Medical Technology
- How to Grow a Medical Technology Sector at the National and Regional Levels in ASEAN
- Future Areas for Medical Devices Cooperation under the ASEAN-U.S. Enhanced Partnership
The workshop will explore avenues for mutually supportive work among the MDPWG, the Asia Harmonization Working Party (AHWP), and the U.S. Government. Additionally, this workshop will serve to focus objectives and discussions for the October meetings of both the GHTF in Washington, DC and the AHWP in Chengdu, China.
Speakers and moderators will include regulators from ASEAN countries as well as the United States, Europe, and Australia, three of the five GHTF founding members. The workshop will feature industry expert speakers from Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, and Bausch & Lomb. Key representatives from the U.S. industry association AdvaMed will also lead workshop discussions.
The United States Department of Commerce and the Medical Devices Product Working Group encourage ASEAN medical device regulators and industry representatives to attend; medical device regulators and industry representatives from all AHWP member economies are also welcome. The ASEAN Secretariat, the Vietnam Ministry of Health, and the U.S. Department of Commerce look forward to your participation.
