A forty-year history...
MACDP
is a population-based surveillance system for birth defects that was
established in 1967 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), Emory University, and the Georgia Mental Health Institute and is
the nation's first population-based surveillance system to actively
ascertain birth defects Since that time, the program has conducted
ongoing surveillance for birth defects among infants, fetuses, and
children born to residents of the five central counties of metropolitan
Atlanta through the use of active case-finding methods and multisource
ascertainment.
