Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program

ETV Verified Technologies

The ETV Program has verified the performance of 405 innovative environmental technologies that can be used to monitor, prevent, control, and clean up pollution. See the full list of ETV verified technologies.

MOBILE SOURCES DEVICE VERIFIED

The ETV Air Pollution Control Technology Center, operated by RTI International, has verified the performance of the PCRT2 1000, Version 2, Filter + Diesel Oxidation Catalyst, developed by Johnson Matthey PLC.  This mobile diesel engine air pollution control device was verified for percentage of emissions reduction achieved by the technology for particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide relative to the performance of the same baseline engine without the technology in place.  Operating conditions were documented, and ancillary measurements were also made.  The verification statement and report are available on the ETV  Air Pollution Control Technology Center Verified Technologies Mobile Source Devices web page.

ETV COLLABORATES FOR VERIFICATION OF LEAK DETECTION AND REPAIR TECHNOLOGIES

The ETV Advanced Monitoring Systems (AMS) Center, operated by Battelle, has begun verification testing of two models of passive infrared imagers:  the Sherlock VOC developed by Pacific Advanced Technologies, and the GasFinderIR developed by FLIR Systems Incorporated.  These imagers are being verified for their capabilities as remote leak detection and repair (LDAR) devices for use at petrochemical facilities.  Currently in the U.S. and other industrialized countries, fugitiveemission monitoring programs are based on U.S. EPA Method 21 which uses a portable hydrocarbon analyzer to monitor for leaks at industrial components such as flanges, couplings, and valves.  Optical imagers, or LDAR devices, offer operators ability to monitor components from a distance and instantaneously identify leaking components within the line of sight of the optical imager.  The AMS Center has received contributions and support for this testing from the American Chemistry Council, Texas Chemistry Council, FLIR Systems Incorporated, Industrial Scientific Corporation, The Dow Chemical Company, BP, and Sage Environmental.  Verification testing will take place at a Dow Chemical facility and a BP facility, both in Texas.  For more information on this verification test, contact Amy Dindal, Battelle, at (561) 422-0113 or dindala@battelle.org, or John McKernan, EPA, at (513) 569-7415 or mckernan.john@epa.gov.

Vendor Solicitations

ETV centers issue periodic solicitations for vendors and collaborators interested in verification. For a list of active ETV vendor solicitations, please visit Vendors Wanted, or contact the appropriate ETV center. Recently issued solicitations include the following:

ETV Advanced Monitoring Systems Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The AMS Center, operated by Battelle, is soliciting vendors and collaborators interested in verification testing of monitoring technologies for contaminants in air, water, and soil. For more information, please contact Ann Louise Sumner, Battelle, at (614) 424-3973 or ETV-AMSCenter@battelle.org.

ETV Drinking Water Systems (DWS) Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The DWS Center, operated by NSF International, is soliciting vendors interested in verification testing of new, innovative, and emerging drinking water treatment technologies and equipment.  Of particular interest are technologies that help to address the following:  water conservation and reuse (e.g., to address water loss as a result of evaporation and other effects of global climate change); energy efficient technologies used in drinking water treatment, such as nanotechnology or energy recovery systems integrated into treatment equipment; and treatment technologies that reduce the volume, hazard, or risk of residuals.  Technologies that address one or more of the above issues and also treat, reduce or remove one or more of the following contaminants are of high priority, should and when funding becomes available:  contaminants regulated under the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (particularly membrane separation and ultraviolet inactivation processes), Groundwater Rule, Arsenic, Radium, Uranium, and other existing drinking water rules.  For more information, please contact Bruce Bartley, NSF, at (734) 769-5148 or bartley@nsf.org, or Jeff Adams, EPA, at (513) 569-7835 or adams.jeff@epa.gov.

ETV Materials Management and Remediation (MMR) Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The MMR Center, operated by Battelle, is soliciting vendors and collaborators interested in verification testing of remediation and materials management technologies, including technologies for recycling, beneficial use of waste materials, recovery of useful components of waste, and treatment to minimize disposal requirements; and technologies to remediate contaminated land and ground water, such as is found at Superfund sites. For more information, please contact Amy Dindal, Battelle, at (561) 422-0113 or dindala@battelle.org.

ETV Water Quality Protection Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The WQP Center, operated by NSF International, is soliciting vendors and collaborators for verification testing of source water protection and wet weather flow technologies, including grouting and coating materials for infrastructure rehabilitation.  For a list of technology categories prioritized by this center.  Vendors with technologies in these areas that are interested in having their products verified should contact Tom Stevens, NSF, at (734) 769-5347 or stevenst@nsf.org.

European AdvanceETV Project Solicits Vendors

The new AdvanceETV project, sponsored by the European Commission, is currently seeking vendors interested in joint verification under the U.S., Canadian, and European ETV programs.  The objective is for participating vendors to receive joint verifications from three programs at once; AdvanceETV will partially fund the verification.  Interested vendors should contact one of the following AdvanceETV partners:  (Europe) Christian Gron, DHI, at +45 4516 9570 or chg@dhigroup.com; (U.S.) Amy Dindal, Battelle, at +1 (561) 422-0113 or dindala@battelle.org; or (Canada) John Neate, OCETA, at +1 (905) 822-4133 or jhneate@etvcanada.ca.  For additional information on ETV international activities.
