MAPS Conference
Tenth Crime Mapping Research Conference
Rescheduled for August 2009
Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana
The 10th Crime Mapping Research Conference has been rescheduled to take place in August 2009 instead of this September 2008. For the 10th Crime Mapping Research Conference, NIJ will be selecting from presenters who submitted to the call for papers. We will also be putting out a second call for papers for new submissions and updates to those already submitted. NIJ remains very supportive of continuing on with the Crime Mapping Research Conference with plans to do so far into the future.
NIJ Conference
In the interim, NIJ has decided to make mapping and geography a primary component of its major annual NIJ Conference which will take place July 21-23, 2008 in Washington D C.
At the NIJ Conference, there will be a plenary session entitled Making Smarter Decisions, Connecting Crime Mapping with City Administrators that discusses the role mapping and geography plays in in helping law enforcement city administrators alleviate urban problems that are related to crime. We will also have a track of 9 panels throughout the NIJ Conference on mapping/geography topics, with the presenters selected from our 10th Call for Presentation submissions. Mapping topics will include neighborhoods, drug markets, foreclosures and vacancies, public housing, gun violence, geographic profiling, and law enforcement as they relate to crime.
