Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign

The National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign uses advertising to reduce youth drug use. In the absence of advertising, youth drug use is mainly influenced by parents and friends, who sometimes are ineffectual or negative influences.

Rating

What This Rating Means

NOT PERFORMING
Results Not Demonstrated

A rating of Results Not Demonstrated (RND) indicates that a program has not been able to develop acceptable performance goals or collect data to determine whether it is performing.
  • With little anti-drug advertising outside of the Campaign, the Campaign addresses the youth drug problem in a significant and unique way.
  • Improvements in planning and management have taken place, including the establishment of measurable performance goals focusing on beliefs and intentions to use marijuana of 12 to 18-year olds, and better targeted advertising.
  • An independent, long-term evaluation found no connection between the Campaign advertisements and youth drug use behavior.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Evaluating how much funding the Campaign needs to accomplish its goal of reducing youth drug use.
  • Targeting the Campaign for maximum impact on youth and their parents.
  • Reviewing evaluation results and considering alternative evaluation strategies to demonstrate the impact of the Campaign.
