The Application Technology Research Unit (ATRU) utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach in developing methods to enhance crop protection while safeguarding environmental quality, food and worker safety.

Personnel located in Wooster, OH and Toledo, OH bring together scientific principles from engineering, entomology, plant pathology and horticulture while conducting on-site, on-farm research in nurseries and greenhouses.

Agricultural Engineering

Develop technologies to improve the accuracy of pesticide, water, and fertilizer delivery systems.

Horticultural Insects

Improve knowledge and management of Japanese Beetle, White Grubs, Black Vine Weevil, and Emerald Ash Borer in nursery crops.

Plant Pathology

Identify pathogens and fungicide residue using Cold Field-Emission Electron Beam Analysis.

Greenhouse Production Research(Toledo,OH)

Study greenhouse floral production through the use of soilless media and hydroponics systems.

IR-4 Food Use and Ornamentals

Pesticide registration and label expansion for ornamental and food-use crops.
