Seattle ANNUAL ALLIANCE REPORT April 3, 2007 |

I. Alliance Background Date Signed February 8, 2006 Overview The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Seattle Regional Office, and the Consulate of Mexico in Seattle, (the Consulate), have recognized the joint commitment to workplace safety and health protections as acknowledged in the 2004 Letter of Agreement between the Department of Labor of the United States of America and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States. Furthermore, OSHA’s Alliance Program provides for the establishment of cooperative relationships for purposes such as training and education, outreach and communication, and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. OSHA and the Mexican Consulate of Seattle, Washington signed an Alliance February 8, 2006 to protect the health and safety of Mexican workers in the Pacific Northwest through outreach, education and training. Implementation Team Meetings Updates were conducted via on site conferences at the Mexican Consulate. Update discussions included future outreach such as radio appearances, training and training topics to be covered at the Training the Trainer conference on August 10, 2006. III. Events and Products Training, Education and Outreach "Training the Trainer" Regional Seminar - August 10, 2006 Region X participated in the Consulate General of Mexico in Seattle, Washington’s Train-the-Trainer Seminar August 10, 2006. OSHA presentations highlighted injury and illness data, hazards of reforestation, and outreach material specific to Hispanics. The seminar also included a video presentation produced by the Department of Labor and Industries in Washington. The audience consisted of community representatives and advocates for Hispanic employees in Washington and Mexican Consulates from western cities, including San Francisco, California. Outreach and Communication The Region mailed a letter to the Mexican Consulate and Hispanic / ESL organizations in November 2006 promoting OSHA’s Spanish-language safety and health information such as handouts, OSHA’s toll-free hotline with a Spanish-language option, Hispanic-related Web pages and other outreach resources. The mailing list included organizations such as Centro de la Raza, CASA Latina, and the Latino Bar Association of Washington. Products No product was developed. Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health Events On May 1, 2006, a radio appearance was made by the ESL Coordinator of Region X on a Spanish Speaking Station in conjunction with outreach efforts by the Mexican Consulate. The interviewer was the Mexican Consul Jorge Madrazo. Products No product was developed. IV. Results The alliance continues engage in outreach for the ESL community. The following includes some efforts from 2006.
V. Upcoming Milestones This alliance will continue until February 8, 2008. |
