Overview

Provide ADSC members and others in the foundation drilling industry, including small businesses and non-English or limited English speaking employees, with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety. The alliance will focus on safety and health issues including, fall protection, silica, pinch-point and equipment operation hazards.

Held planning meetings to discuss and set goals for the Alliance on March 29, May 3, and June 25

III. Events and Products

Training and Education

  • Events

    OSHA attended and participated in ADSC’s Anchor and Micropile Installation School (AMPIS). The OSHA representative discussed recent accidents, answered questions and helped the instructors emphasize the importance of safety there at the school, back at their job sites, and at home during three sessions. The OSHA representative was also able to talk to drilling equipment manufacturers about safety issues for employees working on and around operating machines including the manufacturer’s safety instructions and available safety devices.

    OSHA participated in a Joint Training Workshop presented by the Washington State Department of Transportation and ADSC. OSHA and the ADSC provided a donning demonstration for fall protection equipment and a discussion of risks and mitigation strategies for work around drilling equipment and drilled shafts.

Outreach and Communication
  • Events

    Helped the ADSC obtain an OSHA speaker for their national conference in Nevada.

    OSHA participated in ADSC’s Anchor and Micropile Installation School. Students came from across the United States and Canada to attend this training.

    The ADSC assisted OSHA in its investigation of a drilling accident by providing drill rig information and industry best practices.
Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
  • Events

    Helped the ADSC obtain an OSHA speaker for their national conference in Nevada.

    Met with ADSC members at a construction site to observe drilling operations and discuss safety practices.
IV. Results

OSHA’s interaction with ADSC results in better and more frequent communication between the partners which leads to better understanding of the standards and safer work sites.

V. Upcoming Milestones
