PRINTPACK, Texas Engineering Extension Services (TEEX) and OSHA

    Overview: OSHA, PrintPack and TEEX formed this Alliance to provide members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employee’s health and safety particularly in reducing and preventing exposures to workplace hazards involved with the production of packaging for food, personal care and pet products.

  2. Events and Products
    • Susan Monroe did a tour of the Grand Prairie Plant and took pictures of packaging best work practices. They were approved by PrintPack and given to OSHA for posting and use


  3. Elements
    1. Training and Education
      • Over the last several years PrintPack has sponsored and encouraged all of their Safety and Health professionals across the nation to get the CSHO designation from TEEX
      • The Deputy Regional Administrator attended and spoke at the graduation dinner
    2. Outreach and Communication
      • OSHA presented safety and health topics during training programs
    3. Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
      • Ford Best attended the last two VPP Region VI conferences and worked with the TEEX booth encouraging attendees to train with OSHA, Consult with OSHA and apply for VPP status
         
  4. Results
    • Accident rate before signing the Alliance 3.7, Currently 2.2
    • Insurance experience modifiers went from .67 to .51
    • 2 VPP site Approved. Worker Comp insurance cut in half

       
  5. Upcoming Milestones
    • 5 more sites are in the process of achieving VPP status
