One of many traditional craftsmen who will be demonstrating the essential skills of yesteryear at Ozark Heritage Days.

Ozark National Scenic Riverways hosts a variety of Special Events each season. These may change from year to year, so watch this space for our latest offerings.

Ozark Heritage Days at Big Spring, June 12 and 13, 2009. Enjoy watching the skills of yesteryear demonstrated by woodworkers, farmers, and craftsmen of all types. If you'd like to volunteer to present a traditional Ozark craft, or just help out, please call Bryan Culpepper at 573-323-8822.More details.

Storytelling Festival at Big Spring, Ozark National Scenic Riverways, September 5, 2009. Join us as we share our Ozark heritage through the oral tradition of “Storytelling.”  Ozark tales of Native Americans, superstitions, hunting, tall tales and much more will fill the hollows of Big Spring.  Listen and enjoy as we reminisce, inspire, excite and entertain with stories of the past.  You will want to arrive early to choose your favorite stories! The Haunting of the Hills at Alley Spring, will be held October 10 and 11, 2009. Enjoy traditional Ozark crafts, music and storytelling at our annual harvest season event. Did You Know?
Cane brakes are thick stands of rivercane, which is much like bamboo. The endangered Swainson's Warbler nests in these thickets. Many stands have been lost to reservoir impoundments throughout the South, but many stands are protected at Ozark National Scenic Riverways. More at www.nps.gov/ozar
