ANNUAL ALLIANCE REPORT American Red Cross/Central Illinois Chapter Peoria Area Office April 3, 2007 |

I. Alliance Background Date Signed December 22, 2004 Overview Alliance was formed to provide local businesses with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to fall, amputation, ergonomic, chemical, electrical and other physical hazards and addressing implementation of effective safety and health program issues. Implementation Team Members Peggy Zweber, CAS and Diane Welton, Director of Training, American Red Cross, Central Illinois Chapter II. Implementation Team Meetings Peggy Zweber, CAS and Ms. Welton met quarterly to discuss alliance plans. III. Activities and Products Evaluation Period. December 22, 2005 to December 22, 2006 Alliance Activity. Ms. Zweber sits on the Homeland Security Region 10 (HSR10) committee - 5 County Area (Peoria, Stark, Woodford, Marshall and Tazwell) Representatives from LEPCs, Red Cross, Fire and Police, Health Depts., IEMAs, ESDAs, City and County Reps., Hospitals, Air National Guard, Universities and Caterpillar reps. Currently, group has 105 members. The recently extended LEPC went from 3 to 5 counties (Peoria, Stark, Woodford, Tazewell and Marshall) in 2006 and is currently revamping its mission statement and goals. Each year, tabletop and formalized drills occurred in which OSHA has been evaluator. The CAS attends and contributes to monthly meetings. January 17th meeting – Ms. Welton and CAS Zweber discuss training plans and potential of a disaster preparedness conference. January 25th – CAS Zweber provides Ms. Welton with a list of potential training topics, including the most requested and some health related topics. February 3rd and April 11th meetings – CAS Zweber shares information from the 2005 McLean County Disaster Preparedness conference (CAS Zweber on the Board who put event together) to assist planning group for Peoria event. Material includes schedule, speaker contacts, vendor contacts and OSHA handout materials. The Peoria event was to be sponsored by the Peoria Chamber of Commerce who decided to put a hold on the event for 2006. March 6th – LEPC Drill – Peoria and Marshall Counties – OSHA as evaluator. March 30th – Proctor Corporate Health Forum – Contact for this group received info from the Red Cross on the list of topics OSHA would provide and requested CAS Zweber for a general OSHA health care topic update. April 4th – Presentation American Red Cross training class in Moline – Overview of the Alliance and OSHA, FAQs on bloodborne pathogen standard and First Aid requirements. April 13th – Presentation at Red Cross Quarterly Meeting on the Alliance to RC locations in central and southern Illinois. Meeting with Diane Welton on status of Alliance. August 11th to 14th – CAS works with National Office to provide information on our Red Cross Alliance for a potential article in Safety and Health Quarterly Magazine. Alliance Products. See Above. A number of presentations were created for a number of Red Cross meetings on the topics listed above. IV. Results This Alliance improved within its second year. Presentations were requested on a variety of different topics. The Disaster Preparedness Conference may occur during 2007.
IV. Upcoming Milestones The CAS plans to meet with the Director of Training on a regular basis to ensure that the Alliance does not become stagnant. The Director of Training has been very good at making all the reporting locations aware of OSHA’s availability to provide presentations. The Homeland Security Region 10 meetings continue monthly with OSHA present when available. The use of OSHA as a drill evaluator continues with this group.
