About the Museum

This virtual museum and archive preserves and shares SEC and securities history from the 1930s to the present. It includes a wide range of primary materials, including galleries, a timeline, papers, photos, oral histories and original programs broadcast from this site, which contribute to the understanding of how the SEC has shaped U.S. and international capital markets since its inception.

The virtual museum and archive opened June 1, 2002. Read more about the museum's mission.

Both the Securities and Exchange Commission Historical Society and the virtual museum and archive are independent of and separate from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and receive no federal funding. The museum materials are collected and exhibited independent of any SEC oversight.
