Agenda

The 2009 EPA Quality Management Conference takes place May 12-14, 2009 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. The conference kicks off Tuesday afternoon with the opening plenary session followed by an afternoon of concurrent session tracks. Wednesday and Thursday both begin with invited speakers at a morning plenary session followed by a variety of Quality Management topics presented in concurrent session tracks*. Training workshops will be held Wednesday and Thursday afternoon -- see the agenda below for details. The agenda will be updated as additional details are available.

“Technical Information Management Skills from Field Collection to Data Management”

Participants will learn how EPA methods are being taught to volunteer organizations to help provide the quality data that EPA, states, tribes and local associations need. Areas to be covered include:  introduction volunteer monitoring efforts, sampling methods, study design, quality assurance, and visual assessment training techniques, as well as data base issues and the flow of volunteer data into WQX.

Intended Audience:  EPA, states and tribes who provide and assess the quality of environmental data for EPA program uses.

“Ten Steps to Quality Data and Trusted Information”
The process for implementing the concepts of the Information Quality Framework.  Reviews methodology, techniques, and tools. The ten steps include a discussion on business impact techniques that are used to determine the effects of data quality on the business.  They include qualitative and quantitative measures and methods for prioritizing.

Intended Audience:  Quality analysts, statisticians, technical staff, data users; State, Local and private sector.

“Integrating and Documenting Quality in Project Management”
Participants will be able to apply quality principles at the project level.  Case studies will focus on current issues in policy and documentation, e.g., the secondary use of data, TMDL development, etc.

“What do I do with Non-Detects?”

Participants will be able to use good techniques for the analysis of data sets containing non-detects, be able to understand the inherent biases in each, and have an understanding on how to use Visual Sample Plan to analyze data.
