Signing Ceremony Scheduled for Aug. 24 in Birmingham, Ala. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama (ABC) have formed an alliance to prevent injuries, illnesses and fatalities in the construction industry. "The primary goal of this alliance is to promote the value of establishing and maintaining safety and health programs to construction contractors," said Roberto Sanchez, OSHA’s Birmingham, Ala., area director. "The alliance will also provide safety and health materials to workers."
President Jeff Masters will represent the ABC at the signing ceremony. OSHA has created more than 453 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA’s role is to assure the safety and health of America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
