OSHA Forms Alliance With Lehigh Career And Technical Institute
Safety and Health of Staff and Students Top Priority

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today announced an alliance between the Allentown area office of OSHA and the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI) to protect the safety and health of LCTI students, staff and others associated with its campus in Schnecksville, Penn.

LCTI is the largest career and technical school in Pennsylvania, offering more than 38 programs of study.

The alliance will have a special emphasis on youth entering the workforce, providing information, guidance and access to safety and health training. Working together, OSHA and LCTI will develop safety and health curricula tailored to LCTI programs, including such areas of study as food preparation, automotive repair, welding, electricity, carpentry, masonry, cosmetology and security.

"Good health and safety practices should be an important part of all job training," said Richard Soltan, OSHA's regional administrator for the Mid-Atlantic states. "The Labor Department is hopeful that this voluntary, cooperative relationship with LCTI will encourage other career and technical schools in Pennsylvania to align with OSHA."

Through the alliance, OSHA and LCTI will also identify and correct campus hazards that are observed during safety audits of the school's classrooms, laboratories and a student-built-house project. LCTI's best safety practices will be publicized and shared with other career and technical schools n Pennsylvania's educational system.

OSHA is dedicated to assuring worker safety and health. Safety and health add value to business, the workplace and life. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
