Apr. 27--A group of 12 Western Washington University students and Viking 32, their biogas-powered car, won a national award for developing sustainable technology Wednesday.
Western's Vehicle Research Institute was one of six groups from around the country to win the Environmental Protection Agency's P3 award in Washington, D.C. For winning, the group will be eligible for up to $75,000 in grants.
The students developed a portable biogas scrubber, which can convert the biomethane that comes from livestock manure into engine fuel that powers their vehicle.
