EPA announces grants to clean the air
EPA Region 6 in Dallas announced $1,378,160 in grants for clean diesel projects in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas under the State Clean Diesel Program. Grants from the State Clean Diesel Program are direct, non-competitive assistance awards designed to allow states to build programs that reduce diesel emissions from existing fleets.
The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality will use its $295,320 grant to fund projects that reduce diesel emissions by using retrofit equipment, idle reduction technologies and other techniques.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will use its $295,320 grant to work with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to retrofit several engines in its ferry fleet.
The New Mexico Environment Department will use its $196,880 grant to retrofit at least 55 school buses with diesel oxidation catalysts and enhanced crankcase ventilation systems.
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality will use its $295,320 grant to retrofit refuse haulers and school buses with diesel oxidation catalysts and diesel particulate filters.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will use its $295,320 grant to fund projects that reduce diesel emissions from school buses as part of the Texas Clean School Bus program .
