  • July 30 - Baggage Handling - Airline employees, including ticket agents and ramp agents, handle passenger baggage at several points throughout the baggage handling process. The body postures, repetitions, and forces required to lift, lower, push, pull, or carry passenger baggage can create potentially serious ergonomic hazards for the agents. This eTool describes many of the common hazards associated with the baggage handling process as well as providing possible solutions that are ranked according to their feasibility to the operations.   • July 28 - Youth in Agriculture - Each year on farms in the United States, a number of youth less than 20 years of age are killed, injured, or permanently disabled. According to the National Safety Council, agriculture is the most hazardous industry in the nation. Potentially, more than 2 million youth are exposed to farm safety hazards each year. This eTool describes common hazards and potential safety solutions for youth workers and employers in agriculture.

  • July 16 - Teen Worker Safety in Restaurants - New eTool - Restaurants and other eating and drinking businesses employ 11.6 million people in the United States. Nearly 30% of these employees are under 20 years of age. Many teens' first work experience is in the restaurant industry. OSHA is providing this eTool to help youth working in the restaurant industry to be safe and healthy on the job.

  • July 14 - Bloodborne Pathogens & Needlestick Prevention - New Revised Safety and Health Topics Page - Workers in many different occupations are at risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. First aid team members, janitors, and nurses are examples of workers who may be at risk of exposure. In 1991, OSHA issued the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to protect workers from this risk. In 2001, in response to the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, OSHA revised the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 1910.1030. This new page includes commonly asked questions that provide useful safety and health information about bloodborne pathogens and needlestick prevention.
  • July 11 - Ergonomics: Solutions for Electrical Contractors - New eTool - Between 1999 and 2002, more than 30 percent of all workers' compensation claims from the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) were related to ergonomics. This amounted to more than $10 million in claims in just four years. This eTool describes common hazards that electrical contractors may encounter and possible solutions for these hazards. The eTool was developed in cooperation with IEC as part of the OSHA-IEC Alliance.

  • July 10 - Machine Guarding: Horizontal Injection Molding - New eTool Module - Injuries resulting from inadequate machine guarding are of concern due to their potential severity. Plastics processing machines are complex pieces of equipment that require guards to protect employees from nip points, numerous moving parts, and exposure to high voltage and high temperature. This section was developed in cooperation with the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. as part of the OSHA-SPI alliance. The section discusses guidelines and safety measures for Horizontal Injection Molding.
