NCES 2005162 2004 National Study of Postsecondary Faculty (NSOPF:04) Data Analysis System
The NSOPF:04 DAS contains data on 26,110 faculty and instructional staff that responded to a nationally representative sample of all full- and part-time faculty and instructional staff employed at public and private not-for-profit degree-granting postsecondary institutions in the fall of 2003. Data contained on the DAS were collected in 2004 and focus on the background characteristics, work activities, compensation, and future plans of faculty and instructional staff.

NPEC 2004831 How Does Technology Affect Access in Postsecondary Education? What Do We Really Know?
This report examines the relationship between technology and access to postsecondary education, and identifies four basic themes: technology and access to postsecondary education in general; access to technology-based learning; preparation for using technology; and the effectiveness of technology in learning. The report presents a review of the more recent literature concerning each of these themes, and in addition, offers new analyses of national data that expands and further informs the knowledge base. The report concludes with some recommendations for additional data collection through NCES surveys.

The DAS CD contains the most recent postsecondary longitudinal data release, BPS:96/01, as well as all other released DASs current as of 12/02. These data sets are for public use and do not allow a user direct access to the data, but do allow them to design and run basic analyses specific to their needs.

NCES 2002170 Gender and Racial/Ethnic Differences in Salary and Other Characteristics of Postsecondary Faculty: Fall 1998
This report describes gender and racial/ethnic differences in salaries and other characteristics of full-time instructional faculty and staff in fall 1998 using NSOPF:99 data. Differences between men and women and among four racial/ethnic groups--White non-Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black non-Hispanic, and Hispanic faculty--are examined with respect to the institutions and appointments, education and experience, and teaching and research activities of these faculty. In addition, a regression analysis examines whether salary differences by gender and race/ethnicity persist when controlling for all of these types of factors.

This report presents detailed tabulations of student enrollment in postsecondary institutions in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, for fall 1998. It focuses primarily on degree-granting institutions that are participants in Title IV federal financial aid. Included are summaries of enrollment, by race/ethnicity, gender, and home state of student. Enrollments by state are also provided, along with a few tables showing changes since fall 1997.

This report describes the development of traditionally black institutions, and presents statistics gathered on them since the later half of the 19th century. The report presents detailed statistical findings on enrollment, degrees, staff, financing, and facilities that cover the 1970s and early 1980s, as well as summaries of earlier data.
