About CDC's CCHIS
Welcome to the Coordinating Center for Health Information and Service (CCHIS). Thank you for your interest in CCHIS. As our name implies, our charge from CDC, the greater public health community and the nation is that of service in acquiring, evaluating and conveying science-based public health information.
In our interconnected world, only information travels faster than health risks and threats. CDC must continue to be the world’s leader in acquiring, understanding, and disseminating public health information. During an outbreak, meaningful, relevant health data must be shared in seconds—not hours or days—among researchers, public health officials, and clinicians who are separated by thousands of miles. An increasingly sophisticated public with both the need and the desire for instant access to reliable, trustworthy health information relies on CDC for knowledge that will allow all people to better manage, control and improve their health.
In an age that is ever more demanding of measurement, both decision-makers and the public look to CDC for specific, credible, detailed health statistics on which to base policy decisions that will determine the way in which Americans address health and safety issues in the twenty-first century. CDC’s ability to provide meaningful, trustworthy information and to do so instantly and in an ongoing way, "24-7-365", may be the determining factor in saving one or many lives, and the expenditure of millions, if not billions, of dollars.
CCHIS advances CDC’s leadership in informatics, statistical, and communication sciences and services within the public health system.
