The
Biological Survey of Canada (Terrestrial Arthropods) helps to coordinate
scientific research among specialists on the Canadian fauna of insects,
mites, and their relatives.
This
web site describes the Survey and provides various resources for work on
the Canadian insect fauna, including on-line publications and
databases.
The Survey
synthesizes knowledge and ideas, focuses available expertise on to topics
that are particularly significant, and acts as a clearing-house for
information. It thereby serves as a catalyst for more efficient scientific
progress and provides national direction for work on Canada's insect
fauna.

The Bee Flies (Diptera: Bombyliidae) of Ontario, with a Key to the Species of Eastern Canada
The newest issue of the Canadian Journal of Arthopod Identification has been published. In this issue, illustrated dichotomous keys to the 73 bee fly species of 25 genera occurring in or adjacent to eastern Canada are presented. Thirty-two of these species represent new or previously unrecognized records for Ontario. The authors review the distributions of these species in Ontario, focusing on rarely collected and habitat-restricted species, and summarize host use when known.
