EOUST
DIRECTOR LAWRENCE FRIEDMAN APPOINTS
MARTHA
DAVIS AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR
WASHINGTON, D.C.--Lawrence Friedman,
Director of the Executive Office for United States Trustees (EOUST), announced
today that he has appointed Martha L. Davis as EOUST Deputy Director.
The EOUST is the Washington, D.C.,
headquarters of the U.S. Trustee Program, a component of the Justice Department
that promotes integrity and efficiency in the bankruptcy system by overseeing
case administration and litigating to enforce the bankruptcy laws. The EOUST
supervises the operations of 21 regional U.S. Trustees and 95 field offices
covering 88 federal judicial districts. Attorney General John Ashcroft appointed
Friedman as EOUST Director on March 4, 2002.
"Martie Davis's promotion to Deputy
Director is in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the U.S. Trustee
Program, her wealth of knowledge and broad experience, and her dedication,"
Friedman stated. "I can think of no one better able to assist me in leading
the Program during these times of change, and well into the future."
Davis has previously served as EOUST Acting Director and Acting Deputy Director.
Prior to those appointments, for 10 years she held the position of General Counsel
for the EOUST, providing advice and litigation support to the Director and the
U.S. Trustees. Davis received her J.D. in 1980 from Catholic University Columbus
School of Law in Washington, D.C., and her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 from
the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
