The University of Iowa ranks 26th of all national public universities in the United States by U.S. News and World Report 2009 and its undergraduate programs in business and engineering are recognized as two of the best in the nation. Iowa is also known for its programs in creative writing, education, fine arts, law and health sciences such a speech pathology, audiology, pharmacy, and nursing.

The UI is one of the top public colleges selected as “a bargain compared to other Big Ten Schools” by the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2007. Students can capitalize on the Iowa experience by: joining a learning community that has shared academic interests; enrolling in up to three courses in common with 20 other first-year students, forming a ready-made group of friends and study partners; getting practical tips for succeeding in college by enrolling in the college transition course; joining one of more than 400 officially recognized student organizations; making career connections and exploring potential professions with a wide variety of internships.

Students are welcomed with a full week of arrival and orientation activities, academic advising appointments, activities organized by International Programs, and nationality student group assistance.

Students can explore nearly 100 areas of study-the most popular include business, economics, finance, actuarial science, education, engineering, art, biochemistry, communication studies, psychology and English.

Teaching Periods

Admission is available to new students each August, January, and June.

Tuition Fees

Annual tuition fees for undergraduate studies start at USD$20,000.

Minimum Entry Criteria for Undergraduate Applicants

TOEFL Score 530 (pbt) 197 or 71 (ibt) or

IELTS total score 6.5 with no subscore less than 6.0

Minimum Entry Criteria for Graduate Applicants (some programs higher)

TOEFL Score 550 (pbt) or 81 iBT or

IELTS total score 7.0 with no subscore less than 6.0
