ATTORNEY GENERAL JANET RENO REAPPOINTS
TWO UNITED STATES TRUSTEES
TO OVERSEE BANKRUPTCY CASE ADMINISTRATION
WASHINGTON, D.C.--Attorney
General Janet Reno reappointed two United States Trustees
to five-year terms to oversee the administration of bankruptcy
cases. The United States Trustee Program is an arm of the
Justice Department that monitors the integrity of the bankruptcy
system. It is divided into 21 regions, each headed by a United
States Trustee.
W. Clarkson McDow Jr. was
reappointed United States Trustee in Region 4, which includes
South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and the
District of Columbia. The principal office for Region 4 is
located in Columbia, S.C.
Linda Ekstrom Stanley was
reappointed United States Trustee in Region 17, which includes
the Northern and Eastern Districts of California as well as
Nevada. Region 17's principal office is located in San Francisco.
Stanley will take a leave
of absence from August 9, 1999, to May 31, 2000, to participate
in the Master in Public Administration Program at Harvard
University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. During
that time, Region 16 United States Trustee Maureen Tighe will
also serve as United States Trustee for Region 17. Tighe's
region encompasses the Central District of California.
McDow's and Stanley's reappointments
took effect June 26.
Biographical Information
McDow has served as Region
4 United States Trustee since June 1994. Previously, he engaged
in private practice in South Carolina, after serving for two
years in the United States Army. He is a past recipient of
the South Carolina Bar's award for pro bono lawyer of the
year. McDow received his Juris Doctor in 1969 from the University
of South Carolina Law School in Columbia, S.C., and his Bachelor's
degree from The Citadel in 1966.
Stanley has served as Region
17 United States Trustee since June 1994. For 18 years prior
to her appointment, she was in private practice specializing
in bankruptcy in San Francisco, the last 10 as a partner in
a law firm. She also served on the California State Bar Committee
of Bar Examiners. Stanley received her Juris Doctor in 1976
from Wake Forest Law School in Winston-Salem, N.C. She earned
a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Smith College in 1955
and a Master's degree in History from Yale University the
following year.
