Mississippi National River and Recreation Area
Coon Rapids Dam Reach
Mississippi Boulevard NW (river mile 867.5) to the Brookdale Drive (river mile 861.5).

This section of trails provides a wonderful chance to stop at area attractions such as Manomin County Park and Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts. The East Coon Rapids and West Coon Rapids Dam Regional Parks (located on either side of the river) are great locations for a scenic view of the river, to have a picnic, catch a fish, or check out the visitor centers. East Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park has nearly seven miles of trails and walking paths. West Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park includes three miles of trails, and nature programs are offered here throughout the year.

Please call the Anoka County Parks and Recreation at (763) 757-3920 or Three Rivers Park District at (763) 424-8172 for more information.

Trail Notes and Gaps:
  1. If you are heading north in this section, cross Mississippi Boulevard NW to Uplander Street. Continue for three blocks until the trail picks up again at Riverview Park. Follow the Blue Mississippi River Regional Trail signs to mark the start of the trail.
  2. The Mississippi River Regional Trail is located next to Coon Rapids Boulevard. While this stretch isn’t the most scenic, it serves as an important connection between the river and local parks.
  3. The Coon Rapids Dam walkway is a nice connection between the visitor centers on either side of the river, and to the North Hennepin Regional Trail (See #4 below).
  4. The North Hennepin Regional Trail runs west from Coon Rapids Dam.This seven-mile trail connects the river with the Elm Creek Park Reserve and other trails in Hennepin County.
  5. The trail splits from the road and heads up a small climb to the end of a dead-end road. Ride to the top of the street and head southeast down Alden Way NE.
